The Orange Box: Half-Life 2: Episode Two Hints

Section 2: Antlion Caverns (ep2_outland_01a)

  • 1 of 15: Go through the red door at the back of the room you're in to get to another area where you need to get past a fence.
  • 2 of 15: Get the armor battery and pistol out of the locker in a small side room, then go through an open fence door and down a short slope.
  • 3 of 15: You'll then be at the top of a shaft that you'll need to carefully drop all the way to the bottom of.
  • 4 of 15: Get out of the water at the bottom of the shaft and look around to see several glowing antlion grub worms on the walls.
  • 5 of 15: Grab the pistol that's near the water's edge, then head down the tunnel, bashing webs as you come to them.
  • 6 of 15: You'll eventually reach a hole in the floor that you need to drop down through, but save your game first -- there are three poison-spittin' antlion workers in the tunnel beyond.
  • 7 of 15: If you go back down to where the tunnel curves and look through the fencing, you'll see a large cave that you need to get to.
  • 8 of 15: Moving forward, you'll find a board-and-barrel barricade ahead of you, and three or four more antlion workers in the cave area beyond it.
  • 9 of 15: After you get past those workers, you'll find yourself in a flooded cave room with no apparent exits.
  • 10 of 15: After you surface, look around for shotgun and .357 ammo, including next to a skeleton in the small alcove on the right.
  • 11 of 15: Move on past that point to find a bunch of antlions and barnacles that you'll have to deal with.
  • 12 of 15: Past the barnacle area, you'll have to deal with several more antlions of both types as you make your way down the tunnels.
  • 13 of 15: Find the passage that's blocked by a web in the back of the last cave where you fought antlion workers.
  • 14 of 15: Bash the web out of your way, then move down the tunnel until Chapter 2: This Vortal Coil starts.
  • 15 of 15: TIP: Before you drop down to where Chapter 2 loads, you might want to go back and get leftover supplies from previous cave areas and toss them down ahead of you. That way, you'll have them in Chapter 2.
