Section 4: Rollermines and Ambushes (d2_coast_05)

  • 1 of 9: NOTE: Jumping that ramp in the previous chapter section was actually the last place in the game where you really *need* the jeep. That means you could abandon it now and proceed on foot! You'll move slower and won't have the tau cannon to help in combat, but you can make it pretty easily (and you can shortcut certain areas). However, the rest of these hints will assume that you're going to keep the jeep for now.
  • 2 of 9: As you drive down the long, winding road toward the first of three ambush areas, you'll start encountering the evil "cousins" of Dog's ball.
  • 3 of 9: Past the first couple of rollermine encounters, you'll come to a section of road that's very dangerous because the railing on the right is out, and you can fall into the ocean and die if you're not driving slowly and carefully (and rollermine-free).
  • 4 of 9: After you go over a slanty dirt mound and dispose of three more rollermines, you'll come to the first ambush area.
  • 5 of 9: The second ambush is just a short distance down the road from the first.
  • 6 of 9: The next thing you come to isn't an actual ambush since there are no soldiers there -- it's just a bunch of junk that you need to blast out of your way with the gravity gun.
  • 7 of 9: Well, okay, there's a little more to it than that. Up on a grassy knoll to the right, next to a dead body, is a wondrous new weapon called the crossbow. See the general Crossbow info to learn more about it.
  • 8 of 9: A short way past the junk blockade is an old gas station that the Combine has hastily fortified as an ambush point, complete with road-blocking force field.
  • 9 of 9: Past that, it's just a short drive to the tunnel that leads to Section 5: Clifftop Lookout.
