Icewind Dale II Hints
Melt the glacier blocking the Western Pass.
1 of 12: There are several things you need to do to finish this big quest, and Nathaniel is your coordinator for it. Therefore, your first step is to rescue him from the Ice Temple's prison.
2 of 12: To recover his equipment, you need to go to level 2 of the temple and figure out how to get into the temple treasury in the SW corner of the level.
3 of 12: Once you're in the treasury, get Nathaniel's specially-marked bag of holding from a box at the south end of the room, then go back to level 1 and give it to him.
4 of 12: He tells you that to keep the glacier from regenerating every time it's damaged, you'll need to kill all three high priestesses and destroy their altar to Auril.
5 of 12: High Priestesses Lysara and Cathin are easy to find on level 1, but Oria's locked herself in her bedroom on level 2.
7 of 12: After you finish all that, get Nathaniel's Ring of the Ram from a treasury on level 2 and give it to him when you report success for killing the high priestesses and the altar. (You could keep the ring, but you'd lose out on some XP that would probably be of more use to you.)
8 of 12: Nathanial will leave the temple and get to work on breaking through the now-vulnerable glacier.
9 of 12: And now, if you haven't already done it, you need to kill Sherincal. She's hanging around with a bunch of minions just outside the main entrance to the Ice Temple.
10 of 12: Once all of the above is done, you'll be teleported to where Nathaniel is breaking through the glacier.
11 of 12: After he does, some soldiers will approach, including the one you could have gotten a trapped fake letter for back in the Prologue. If you did, you can deliver the letter now and fight the shapeshifters when the letter's trap exposes them. Otherwise, you'll have to wait until Chapter 3 to expose and kill them.
12 of 12: Either way, that finishes up this main quest.
