The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind Hints

Escort Tips

  • 1 of 8: When escorting someone across a long distance outdoors (which is usually something that's quest-related), there are several tips you need to keep in mind.
  • 2 of 8: Before heading off on a long escort mission, think about how fast travel services might be able to help. Your companion will stay with you if you take a boat, silt strider, or Mages Guild teleport service, so check the info on those three things in the Fast Travel tips to see if there are any shortcuts you can use.
  • 3 of 8: If they get stuck or start running off in the wrong direction, run back to them and stand near them until they calm down, then start off in the right direction again.
  • 4 of 8: Be sure to have a spell like Heal Companion that restores health on others when cast on them. That way you can heal the person you're escorting if they get badly hurt during combat with a wild creature.
  • 5 of 8: If you can cast Invisibility or a strong Chameleon on yourself and your companion, that would certainly help keep the critters from attacking you on your journey.
  • 6 of 8: Another way to handle combat is to talk to the person you're escorting and tell him to stay put while you scout ahead. You can then look ahead and kill whatever monsters are on the path. (Fortunately, your companion will only be attacked if he's actually following you. If he's just standing and waiting, he'll be ignored.)
  • 7 of 8: If the person gets killed, you could try resurrecting them with the PC console. This will sometimes allow you to go ahead and finish the quest, but isn't guaranteed to always work (especially if you get a journal entry when the person dies -- you can't remove journal entries). Other console things you can do include increasing their health and speed, giving them weapons to fight with, and so on. See the Commands for Affecting Others and Getting Stuff cheat code sections for more details. (Note that with giving items, you'd select them and use the "additem" command.)
  • 8 of 8: As a last resort, you can use the console's "position" command to teleport the person you're escorting straight to the destination, and then use "positioncell" to get yourself there. (See following links.)
