Myst V: End of Ages Hints
I've found the fan, but how do I get back to the rest of the shaft?
of 8: In much the same was as you got to the fan in the first place.
of 8: Go back to the well that's below the moving floor, and you'll see a pedestal like the one that's on top of the moving floor.
of 8: Press it to lower the floor again, and then climb the ladder out of the well before the floor reaches the bottom.
of 8: You can now either take the stairs or raise the floor again, whichever you'd prefer.
of 8: There's also a shortcut you may have found after turning on the fan.
of 8: Specifically, when you turned on the fan, a ladder dropped from the ceiling in the hallway between the well/moving floor and the fan. Climb that ladder, and on one end is a door that takes you back into the main level of the room with the moving floor. This will save you from having to crawl under the floor as it's moving if you need to go back and forth in the future.
of 8: If you've also found the final linking book here, you may be able to go to Direbo and then use the other linking books in Direbo to reach different parts of the shaft.
of 8: That is, there are four linking books in Direbo, each of which brings you to a different part of the shaft. If you've already opened some of the gates in Direbo, you can walk from one linking book to another in that age, and in so doing, quickly reach different parts of this age. If you haven't already opened enough of the gates, the rest of the hints in this question give you other options.
