Step-by-Step Monster-Blasting Strategy
1 of 9: To start with, head west and then north from the bastion's entry room after the illithid speaks to you telepathically.
2 of 9: Actually, you should head east first until you get a magic ring from Calibast or a magic amulet from Jaboli if either of them are with you, then turn around and go west. (If you get Calibast's Ring, put it on since it'll offer a lot of protection against fire, which is the type of damage that the fully powered magic balls do.)
3 of 9: Pick up the mirror that's in bracket "e," then walk around in detect mode until you find the nearby hidden door that leads to the control room.
4 of 9: NOTE: The mirrors are very heavy, so it would help if you had a magic bag to put them into to reduce their weight in your inventory. Otherwise, hand them off to henchmen until you're ready to use them.
5 of 9: Kill off the drow inside the control room and use the controls to turn the magic balls off.
6 of 9: Then exit the control room through its northern secret door and kill off the drow in the room with the ball-firing mirror.
7 of 9: Now for the big monster-infested rooms. I like to start off by doing the duergar room (location 1 on the map), followed by the kobold room (location 2), but you can do them in any order you want to.
9 of 9: There's no way to get the fireballs directed into the orc room (location 4), so you may want to just remove the mirror from bracket "e" and lure orcs out to you a few at a time, making them cross the fireball route to get to you.
