Half-Life 2 Hints
Section 3: Antlion Country (d2_coast_11)
of 15: Moving along, you'll pass by a steep cliff with an ocean view, and then you'll come to a sandy spot where one guy yells at you to stay off the sand.
of 15: You'll soon see why as his wounded companion moves around and causes several antlions to spawn and attack.
of 15: After using the gravity gun to pull in the supplies near the two guys, you're going to need to find a way to get through this area without constantly fighting antlions.
of 15: Making your way carefully along, you'll eventually come to a spot where the remains of a windmill form a kind of seesaw that you need to cross.
of 15: Past the seesaw, you can head off one way to visit a little hut with lots of supplies near it, or you can skip it and hop a few gaps to get to the tall grassy hill that's near two other optional buildings.
of 15: What you really need to get to is the thumper that's a ways out past the optional buildings. You'll also have to figure out how to turn it on.
of 15: Before you drop down to the new area past the upper ledge, you might want to deactivate the antlions in the area you've just been through so you can go back and search everywhere for supplies unhindered.
of 15: TIP: Whether you deactivate the antlions or not, you might want to use the gravity gun to fire a few supplies (especially health packs and armor batteries) into the next region before you drop down there and face the terror that awaits you.
of 15: After you drop down using the small grassy ledges, you'll be faced with a freaky new adversary.
of 15: Search around the entire antlion guard area for supplies, then follow the vortigaunt who approaches you.
of 15: He'll zap the antlion guard in such a way as to create an unlimited supply of pheropods (a.k.a. bugbait). Those wonderful things will force all regular antlions to serve you in the areas ahead!
of 15: Follow the vortigaunt as he leads you through the local resistance camp and into the pheropod training area. (Be sure to check around the camp for supplies as you go.)
of 15: The training is very basic and simple, so no hints are needed. Just follow the vortigaunt around and do as he instructs.
of 15: When it's over, the nearby log barrier will be lifted out of the way, and you can move on to Section 4: Approaching Nova Prospekt. (This is the start of what IMHO is the absolute funnest, most endlessly replayable section of the entire game.)
