Jade Empire Hints

Lord Lao's Furnace

  • 1 of 16: NOTE: This won't ever appear in your journal, but there's way too much to it to treat it as anything other than a quest.
  • 2 of 16: You can talk to Kang at any time about what his wind map revealed if you've already done the related flyer mini-game. That'll get you transported to a special "heaven" area.
  • 3 of 16: After talking to Kang, follow him over to the gazebo and talk to him some more.
  • 4 of 16: You need to use certain configurations to set the machines and get them to give you new techniques and gems.
  • 5 of 16: Look around to see what all machinery is interactive.
  • 6 of 16: The gazebo has a fuel hopper inside it, plus a reset control. On either side of the gazebo are large statues with buttons. (There's also a bookstand inside that you can read for XP.)
  • 7 of 16: A bit north of the gazebo are several machines with levers. Check the area map for green stars that label each one.
  • 8 of 16: What you do is activate certain machines using their levers, then put the right fuel into the fuel hopper, and then press either the tiger button or the dragon button. You can use the reset control to reset the machinery if you ever need to.
  • 9 of 16: There are several machine configurations that get you something, and each one is described on a scroll.
  • 10 of 16: To view a scroll that you have, go to your journal screen and click on "Plot Items" along the bottom, then click on the scroll that you want to read.
  • 11 of 16: Whenever you're ready to return to the Imperial City, talk to Kang and tell him so.
  • 12 of 16: You can later have him return you to the heaven area so you can try out any new configurations you discover scrolls for.
  • 13 of 16: Also, you can periodically ask him about the furnace and then the configurations to get notes that suggest where to look for configuration scrolls.
  • 14 of 16: Listed below are the first six configurations that are available to you.
  • 15 of 16: When you finish any three of those configurations, you'll get a special wind map that you can use (while at your base camp) to do a flyer mini-game that will get you the Mirage flyer upgrade and a vial of sulfurous water if you can finish it.
  • 16 of 16: After you finish all six of those configurations, Kang will get another special wind map. I was never able to finish its mini-game due to the big end-mission freak being *way* to hard to beat. I've heard that you can get one last configuration for the furnace if you somehow complete the mission, but I wouldn't advise wasting much time on it.
