The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind Hints
Game Glitches
of 16: NOTE: Most of the following game glitches will only happen on the unpatched PC version and XBox version of Morrowind. Those that I have verified as being fixed by PC patch v1.6.1820 or earlier have a [FIXED] notation after them. Those that I have verified as still being there are marked as [NOT FIXED]. Those that I've been told never happen on the XBox version are marked [NOXBOX].
of 16: When you need to get a bounty removed, go to a Thieves Guild Bounty Removal guy and drop all your gold on the floor before talking to him. You can then get your bounty removed for free (the game will think it's taking gold from your inventory, but it won't be). Don't forget to pick up all your gold from the floor! [FIXED]
of 16: For an unlimited money supply, solve the death of Ralen Hlaalo before joining any Great House. Then go talk to Nileno Dorvayn in Balmora City's Hlaalu Council Manor about "Ralen Hlaalo" over and over again to get 1,000 gold and 1 Reputation point each time. This gimmick is ruined if you join House Hlaalu. See the following quest link for details on solving the murder (but note that you'll be getting the quest not from Dorvayn, but from entering Hlaalo Manor and examining the dead body and talking to the servant). [FIXED, NOXBOX]
of 16: Another unlimited money gimmick is in "The Bad Actor" misc. quest in Vivec. If you kill Maurard, you can talk to Miun-Gei about "annoying fool" over and over to get 250 gold each time. [FIXED]
of 16: You can make your own permanent Daedric items by casting a Bound spell to get the item, unequipping the item and putting it in inventory, dropping the item from inventory to the ground, resting for an hour or more, and then picking the item up off the ground. [FIXED]
of 16: A related glitch allows you to pump up some attributes and skills permanently. Go to a spellmaker and make Bound spells with a duration of zero, then cast them over and over. The attribute and skill bonuses will stay with you forever! [FIXED]
of 16: The Robe of St. Roris was apparently meant to restore health and fatigue 15 points each time it was used, but instead it got typed in as a constant effect item, and therefore restores health and fatigue at a quick rate as long as it's worn. This makes any character who's level 10 or above darn near unkillable with the robe on. You *gotta* know this was fixed in the patches (but you can also unpatch the robe). [FIXED]
of 16: There are two useful glitches that are related to enchanting items. See the bug notes in the Enchanting Tips. [FIXED]
of 16: Even in the latest patched version, there is a way to make permanent bound items. Enchant an armor or weapon item to have a constant effect Bound spell for the same type of item. For instance, enchant some cheap shield to have a constant effect of Bound Shield. When you equip the enchanted shield, the magic Daedric shield will appear and automatically unequip the shield that summoned it. You can now get rid of that old shield and keep the bound one forever, since it won't ever disappear (and you can never get rid of it even if you want to). This is only worth it, though, if you can make your own constant effect items instead of having to pay an enchanter to do it. [NOT FIXED]
of 16: The Bound item spells are rather screwy, and can be used to duplicate armor and weapons. Use the link below to read about how to exploit this glitch. [NOT FIXED]
of 16: It's both possible and easy to create spells that you can cast to put constant effects on yourself to raise attributes, skills, etc. See the Spell Tips for all the details. [NOT FIXED]
of 16: The Light of Day mace, which can be obtained on a Vampire Quest for Clan Aundae, has some interesting glitches involved with it. See the note at the bottom of "The Vampire Hunter" quest hints. [NOT FIXED]
of 16: If you're fast enough, it's possible to raid the body of a dead summoned monster before it vanishes. You have to Activate it (SPACEBAR on the PC) in the split second between the time it hits the floor and the time it vanishes. This is really cool if you can cast the Summon Golden Saint spell (which Felen Maryon in the Tel Branora tower sells), since saints can have very high-level items, including the coveted Daedric tower shield. When you're taking the creature's items, DO NOT click on "Dispose of Corpse" or "Take All," since doing so could cause a game crash. Instead, transfer the items one at a time to your inventory and click "Close." [NOT FIXED]
of 16: When you get your Speechcraft and Mercantile skills up to 100 each (which should be an early training goal), you'll easily be able to admire merchants up to a disposition of 100 for better prices. You can even buy items for way less than their baseline value! However, watch what happens when you sell things to merchants -- you may end up getting cheated badly due to a little game glitch. If this happens, taunt the merchant to get his disposition down a ways, then try again. You can use this to your advantage by buying stuff when the merchant's disposition is 100, then taunt and/or intimidate him down to a disposition of 20 and sell right back to him. Also, buy things cheap from merchants and then sell them to the Creeper (see following link). [NOT FIXED]
of 16: There are some few areas in which being seen stealing things won't get you in trouble. The people who see you will still yell at you, but they won't attack you and your bounty won't go up. Ghorak Manor in Caldera is one such place, as are many small single-occupant homes in various towns. [NOT FIXED]
of 16: One nasty little glitch you don't want to get victimized by is that when you restore an attribute that's been drained (whether you use a spell or a potion), you have to first remove all equipped items that have a constant effect that increases that attribute. You can put them back on after you do the restoration. If you try to restore the attribute without removing the enhancement items, the restoration won't work, and may even "freeze" your attribute at the drained level, making restoration impossible (though this is rare). [NOT FIXED]
