Portal 2 Hints

How can I get to the top of this shaft?

  • 1 of 8: Since the elevator is stuck a ways up the shaft, you'll have to use portals to work your way up.
  • 2 of 8: Go to the edge of the boards that are next to the shaft bottom, then look up and use Zoom mode to see the elevator way above you.
  • 3 of 8: Your first goal is to reach the elevator.
  • 4 of 8: Get in the elevator and look up through its open roof to see that there are no visible portal-friendly surfaces in the upper area of the shaft.
  • 5 of 8: However, notice that the elevator floor is portal-friendly. Maybe you could fling yourself up out of it and onto the ledge that's higher up in the shaft.
  • 6 of 8: Once you're on the ledge, look up to see that you're near the top of the shaft. The only things above you are two small alcoves, one of which has the exit door in it.
  • 7 of 8: The other alcove has a slanted portal-friendly surface in it that you can use to fling yourself over to the exit door.
  • 8 of 8: There are two ways to do the fling, the first of which has you quickly relocate a portal onto the slanted surface while in mid-air, and the second of which lets you skip that annoying maneuver.
