RHEM Hints

Walkthrough-style Solution

  • 1 of 27: WARNING: The following set of hints will take you from the beginning of the game to the end, giving away all of the puzzle solutions in the process. (The rest of the hints *outside* of this section still provide true UHS-style hints, which allow you to solve the puzzles on your own.) Things won't be explained here, either -- just solved, with all nonessentials skipped. Start a new game and use this walkthrough only if you're hopelessly and permanently stuck otherwise. Perhaps doing the walkthrough (at least for awhile) will help you realize why you were stuck before so you can go back to your old saves and play on from there.
  • 2 of 27: NOTE: This isn't a click-by-click walkthrough where I tell you things like "move forward three times, turn right, move forward two times." Instead, I tell you to go from one place directly to another, making a note of any obstacles along the way. Be sure to use my Annotated Map to keep from getting lost.
  • 3 of 27: From where you start the game, walk along the only path available and enter the Round Building. Find the ladder and climb down it, then exit the Round Building again through its lower north exit.
  • 4 of 27: Follow the path along until you come to some stairs with a tunnel underneath them. Ignore the tunnel for now and go up the stairs and on until the next path split, which involves a doorway. Skip the doorway and continue along the blue-gray path until you reach the point where the guy yaks at you from above and steals your rail car.
  • 5 of 27: After he's gone, keep going until you reach the Round Building's lower east door. Go through it, up the ladder, then down the corridor to find the door leading to the control room.
  • 6 of 27: Inside the control room, use the center panel to rotate the Round Building's walkway mechanism so that it connects the west and south exits (left and down). Then leave the control room and exit the building through its upper west door.
  • 7 of 27: Find the set of three panels that's a short distance to the west and south (location P on my Annotated Map ). The only one that's important is the one with the "I" on it (notice that it's connected to something far distant via wire). Either print out the graphic below or draw it on paper, then yank the button/lever on the "I" panel all the way down. As it slowly rises, quickly mark the wedges it shows (bottom to top order, note).
  • 8 of 27: Be sure to keep your wedge notes somewhere handy so that you can find them later on. For now, head back north and keep going until you reach the little manhole building that's off on the left side. Open the building's door and click on the manhole's hand design to unlock it. Then open the manhole by clicking on its handle and climb down.
  • 9 of 27: You're now on the path that leads south to the Round Building's lower south door and north to the pumping station. Head north.
  • 10 of 27: Now leave the pumping station the way you entered it and head on back to the ladder up to the manhole you came down through earlier. It's still unlocked, so go up the ladder and through the manhole, then back south and east to the Round Building's upper west door.
  • 11 of 27: Go along the building's corridor and reenter the control room. Use the rotation control panel to rotate the walkway so that it connects the east and south exits (right and down). Then go down the building's ladder and exit it through its lower east door.
  • 12 of 27: To get to the Four Way Tower, head along the path until you come to the path split with the doorway. This time, go through the doorway and onwards, and you'll eventually come to the Four Way Tower.
  • 13 of 27: Our next activity will be to restore power to two elevators that we'll be using eventually. Start by heading south from the tower to get to the generator complex.
  • 14 of 27: Enter the building with the "II" on its front door and climb down the ladder to the lower floor. You need to set the three distribution blocks under the big liftable doors to the right rotations. Check the following graphic for the answer, remembering that the east block is the one nearest the panel with the seven green buttons.
  • 15 of 27: Once they're all three set correctly, exit the building through the door on its lower floor (next to the bottom of the ladder) and yank the big lever in the center of the control panel. That'll restore the power. Now head all the way back to the Four Way Tower.
  • 16 of 27: Now that the elevator power is on, it's possible (though not advisable) to use a little cheat method I devised to shortcut most of the rest of the game.
  • 17 of 27: Assuming you don't want to use that cheat, you don't need to visit the Four Way Tower's upper floor now. Instead, you need to go about getting the four letter fragments the hard way. They can be gotten in any order, so you could exit the walkthrough here and check out the last four main hint sections for further hints. Or read on and do things in the order this walkthrough does them.
  • 18 of 27: The first letter piece we'll go for is in the water tank area.
  • 19 of 27: The next one is in the radio complex.
  • 20 of 27: The third one is in the pentangle complex.
  • 21 of 27: The final piece is in the second rail station, which is also where your escape car is.
  • 22 of 27: When you have all four letter fragments, return to the Four Way Tower and take the little elevator that's west of it up to get to the tower's upper room.
  • 23 of 27: Find the machine directly across from the elevator and open its panel to reveal four jaggedy slots that match the letter fragment shapes. Drag and drop all four pieces of the letter from your inventory to the panel, then close the panel to make a fresh printout of the letter.
  • 24 of 27: Take the printout, then click to the right of the machine (this gets you out of a strange "freeze" bug in the game). Now you can click on the letter at the right end of your inventory to read it.
  • 25 of 27: Click on the bottom red button on the machine next to the panel to open up a compartment with a key in it. Take the key. It'll appear on the left side of your inventory display.
  • 26 of 27: Now return to the second rail station building. Head back down to the room with the gate and keyhole in it. You can now drag and drop the key from your inventory onto the keyhole to place it.
  • 27 of 27: Click on the key to turn it and open the gate, then enter the rail car past the gate and click on its triangular "go" button to finish the game.
