Fallout: New Vegas Game Add-Ons (DLC) Hints

Discover the secrets of the Sierra Madre at the Vault's central chamber.

  • 1 of 13: TIP: Before you go any further, it would be best to totally minimize your inventory. You'll need a ranged weapon for shooting out speakers, and some mines might come in handy, but that's about it. You can leave all your other weapons and armor, plus everything else that weighs anything, in a container somewhere in the casino for later retrieval.
  • 2 of 13: Take the elevator down to the vault, then go through a couple of doors to enter a small side section of its vast central chamber.
  • 3 of 13: Turn right and run down to where a force field blocks your way, then use the terminal next to the nearby door to open it.
  • 4 of 13: Move down the maintenance tunnel and turn left, then move into the doorway ahead with a gun out. There's a speaker directly ahead that you'll need to shoot out.
  • 5 of 13: Move straight forward and drop down to the walkway section ahead, then move up to the small walkway break and turn right. After quicksaving, you'll need to make two hard collar-beepin' runs in a row.
  • 6 of 13: Go down the short tunnel past the second collar hazard to find an area with both indestructible speakers and security holograms in it. And besides all that, the exit on the other side of the area is blocked by a force field.
  • 7 of 13: Soon after you leave the hologram area, you'll enter another dangerous "beep zone." Back up to where the beeping stops, then quicksave before proceeding. You may get your collar exploded while trying to get past the next set of force fields.
  • 8 of 13: Once the force fields are down, you can make your way over to the north end of the central chamber, where you'll find a locked vault door and a terminal. Consider placing some mines before you proceed, if you have the supplies to do so.
  • 9 of 13: Use the terminal to open the door, then run inside so the door will close behind you before the turrets scattered about the central chamber start shooting at you. (You could stay outside and shoot out all of the turrets, but there's an easier way of dealing with them.)
  • 10 of 13: Before you do anything else, look at what's on the table over to the right -- lots of pre-war money and stacks of super-valuable gold bars! Too bad the bars weigh 35 pounds each. I hope you minimized your inventory before entering the vault and/or ran back and stashed stuff before disabling the elevator.
  • 11 of 13: Thoroughly loot the room, including the gun cabinet for weapons and armor (and maybe some stealth boys), then drop some lesser-value items if necessary so you can take at least a few gold bars without being over-encumbered. When you're done with that, use the terminal on the curvy desk in the back of the room.
  • 12 of 13: Choose the desk terminal's "Vera" entry, followed by "To Vera." You can then either read the long text entry that Sinclair left for Vera, or you can power off the terminal without reading it. Either way, Father Elijah will contact you on the wall screen.
  • 13 of 13: There are a lot of dialogue options, but only one really matters. If you end the conversation by saying that you'll wait and cooperate, you'll only get the "Defeat Elijah" objective. If you end the conversation any other way (which requires you to pass at least one skill check), you'll also get the "(Optional) Sneak out of the Vault's chamber area undetected, trapping ..." objective, which gives you a choice as to how to deal with Elijah. (It also gives you a chance to escape the vault with all of those heavy gold bars.)
