Fallout 3 Hints
Disarm Megaton's atomic bomb.
of 12: The next thing to do is get an interesting counter-offer.
of 12: You do that by going to the saloon at the south end of town and talking to Mr. Burke.
of 12: Enter the saloon through its front door, then turn right and move over to the guy who's gesturing to you. That's Mr. Burke.
of 12: Talk to him about his alternative proposition of blowing up Megaton instead of defusing the bomb.
of 12: If you think you'd rather do that, try to pass a Speech Challenge to get 500 extra caps for it. (If you fail that challenge, tell him about Simms wanting the bomb defused to get another Speech Challenge to try.)
of 12: Even if you'd rather defuse the bomb and save Megaton, pretend to go along with Burke's plan so you'll get the fusion pulse charge item. (Note that this objective will then be renamed to "Disarm Megaton's atomic bomb... or rig it to explode.")
of 12: If you want to save Megaton (which is the recommended way to go), take this opportunity to get both Lucas Simms and Mr. Burke killed so you can loot them.
of 12: Now complete the above-mentioned optional objective in order to get all of Leo Stahl's drug stash items for free, even if you don't need them for this quest.
of 12: When you're ready, go down to the bomb and find a place where you can stand and activate it without touching the radioactive water it's in. (The tail end of the bomb is a good spot.)
of 12: Activate the bomb with enough skill, and you'll have to choose once and for all whether to disarm it or rig it to explode. You should have already made your choice, and it would be best if you stick with it now. (If you didn't get the fusion pulse charge, or if you gave it to Simms, you won't have a choice now -- you'll have to disarm the bomb.)
