Half-Life 2: Episode One Hints

Section 1: Street Battles (ep1_c17_01)

  • 1 of 17: When the elevator stops, follow Alyx as she runs out of it and over to a large locked mesh door.
  • 2 of 17: Once outside, take your time to enjoy the scenery and Dr. Kleiner's big-screen debut, then look around for a way to get to another street.
  • 3 of 17: You'll emerge on a street with three antlion spawning pits.
  • 4 of 17: Search the street area for supplies (including the soldiers' dropped SMGs), then head to the end of it and remove the two small boards from the blue door.
  • 5 of 17: When you open the door, you'll catch a few soldiers setting up laser tripmines.
  • 6 of 17: After the tripmines are gone, explore the area to find that the stairs off to the right are blocked by flames.
  • 7 of 17: When you return to the front room, Alyx will come back in and accompany you up the stairs. At the top of the stairs is a wrecky area with some zombies and laser tripmines.
  • 8 of 17: After the room is cleared, cross it and find the stairs down, making sure the sniper in a nearby building doesn't shoot you through the wrecked window nearby.
  • 9 of 17: Soon after the sniper is killed, Alyx will climb up the structure that's right in front of his window to take a look around.
  • 10 of 17: She'll find a spare sniper rifle, and will use it to knock a nearby ladder down for you. (Visually follow the blue beam from her rifle to see that the ladder is on a small catwalk at the right end of the fence.)
  • 11 of 17: After you climb the ladder, save your game before you drop into the next area. It's very hard to get back over the fence, and assorted zombies will attack from three directions.
  • 12 of 17: After all those zombies are dead, go through the doorway near the back right corner of the area.
  • 13 of 17: Head up the stairs, skipping the Combine-locked doors that you can't open, until you get to the top, where a bunch of zombies await you.
  • 14 of 17: After the zombies are dead, go past where they were to find stairs leading back down to ground level. (Don't miss all the supply crates on two different levels as you go. One of them past the bottom of the stairs has three armor batteries in it!)
  • 15 of 17: When you reach the doorway leading back outside, you'll have found the fortified Combine barricade area that Alyx told you about when she first climbed into her sniper's nest. (It's just down the street.)
  • 16 of 17: After the antlions are all dead, join Alyx behind the Combine barricade and wait for her to lower the nearby force field.
  • 17 of 17: Run back down the street if you left any supplies there for after the battle, then go down the winding corridor past the force field to reach Section 2: An Antlion Guard and Much More!.
